Last week I had my first exam. It was an essay test in NZ foreign policy. The questions we got on the test were the exact ones we discussed in tutorial so it wasn't too bad. But it made me realize that I enjoy scan tron tests because there is almost no writing. My hand started to cramp up about 15 minutes into the 50 minute test. But it's over so I'm happy. This was also my only midterm. I have short assessments in stats but they are open note so it's not bad and in Maori performance we just sing as a class and they evaluate us. Stats and Maori performance assessments are really easy and not stressful.
I started taking a wine tasting class through the Uni rec. center. We meet once a week and try 6 wines and learn about them. The class is taught by a local wine maker who holds the record for the southern most winery in the world. For the last class we go to his winery and sample some of his wine. I'll talk about this more when the class is over and I can tell you which kinds of wine I like best :)
I got an ear infection last week and didn't feel like doing anything. The nice thing here is that insurance covered everything. I thought that it was going to be a challenge to see the doctor but it was really easy at the health services and they were all nice.
Because of the ear infection and the fact that it was raining, I didn't do anything fun last weekend.
This week at the Girl Guide meeting, there were only 3 girls there because the rest had a music concert thing at their school. The girls are working on the equivalent of interest projects so they worked on two parts that night. The first one was a discussion on if they should have to wear their uniforms to the meetings and what the uniform should be. All of the girls said that they should have to wear uniforms to meetings and when they go out they should have to wear uniforms. This is very different from back home where we hate having to wear uniforms and will argue about what "full uniform" means. I think part of this is because they all wear uniforms to school, even public ones, so they are used to it. The second part of the meeting we made sock puppets for a puppet show on peer pressure for pipens (Daisies). This was fun because we all did whatever we wanted. They all turned out really well. I was not able to get a picture of them because my phone was not working.
In FOSC 211 we did interviews where we had people taste different kinds of offal (and yes it is awful). This included kidney, brain, tripe, and gizzard. All of these smelt really bad and looked just a bad. I was very impressed that my two friends who helped me ate the different meats. I now have to transcribe the interviews. Doing this has made me realize I am a terrible speaker when it comes to making up questions on the spot.
All of my Friday classes were cancelled so my break is an extra day! I have a lot to get done in the morning because at night I am leaving to go to Australia for the week.
